Lisa Jelle, Flute

I was delighted to perform "An American Flute Music Kaleidoscope: from Impressionism to Blues, Elvis, and Jazz" at the University in Mainz, Germany, upon the gracious invitation of my colleague, Flute Professor Dejan Gavric.  Pianist Manami Sano joined me for the first half of the Griffes Poem, the European Premiere of Eric Ewazen's "A Night in New Orleans" for Solo Flute, and Dan Welcher's "All the Words to All the Songs".  For the second half I was delighted to collaborate with the jazz faculty pianist Sebastian Sternal, as well as Bastian Weinig on bass and Leopold Ebert on set.  This concert was the culmination of many dreams and lots of hard work; it was wonderful to have Mark's daughter, Erika Flugge, there to photo document the experience.  Here is the second half of the program: Mark Flugge: Waltz into Madness (flute and jazz piano) (on my CD Waltz into Madness) Ken Benshoof: TImeless (piccolo and piano) (with an improvised piano chorus on Gershwin's 'Embraceable You', as Mark and I worked it out; on my CD Waltz into Madness) Chick Corea: Friends (flute, piano, bass, and drums) (as inspired by Mark's Chamber Jazz at the Museum concert on Chick Corea's music) Bill Evans: B Minor Waltz (arranged by Mark for flute and jazz piano, on my CD Waltz into Madness) Mark Flugge: A Solidao Bonita (alto flute, electric keyboard, bass, and drums) (on my CD Waltz into Madness) Claude Bolling: Fugace from Suite for Flute and Jazz Piano (with bass and drums) (inspired by my many performances of the Bolling with Mark) Encore- Mark's arrangement of Ellington's Satin Doll: with piano, bass, and drums
