Just married- to Spencer Hobe!  September 23, 2017

Welcome to 2018- there's a lot going on!  Please join us on Sunday, January 21, 2018, at 3 pm for the Fifth Annual Mark Flugge Memorial Jazz Concert! The free concert will be held at Mees Hall, Capital University.  This year's concert features guest piano soloist Bill Dobbins with the Mark Flugge Memorial Big Band, led by Rob Parton, and assisted by Vaughn Wiester. I will play with the Big Band, and our performance will be recorded and included in my next CD, "Bolling and Beyond: Jazz-Inspired Flute. Lisa Jelle: Mark Flugge Remembered" . Arrangements by Bill Dobbins ("Around Every Corner"), Bob Larson ("Action Planet", "Feeling, Not Words"), Kim Pensyl ("Beatrice, the Cat"), Paul Ferguson("Dear Bill"), and Mark Lopeman ("February's Promise") will close out the concert's second half. These are all the big band arrangements of Mark's tunes that have solo flute parts, and I am very excited about putting them on my next CD!

I commissioned and will premiere Capital University senior Andy Frederick's arrangement, "Flugge Jazz Fantasy",  with my PANdemonium4 flute colleagues Kimberlee Goodman, Lindsey Goodman, & Alison Brown Sincoff, also on January 21.  We will be joined by Andy Woodson on bass, and Chris Carmean on percussion.  "Flugge Jazz Fantasy" includes "Ahmad", "The Letter", and "Samba Fantasy".  PAN4 will also perform this work on a NOW (New Music Festival) concert at Capital University (1/31 7:30 pm,  Huntington Recital Hall, free). We will record the Fantasy in March, and it will be included on "Bolling and Beyond: Jazz-Inspired Flute.  Lisa Jelle: Mark Flugge Remembered", release date 2019!

I am very happy to be the featured Guest Artist at Lindsey Goodman Flute Studios' Fifth Annual Festival Day, on January 18th!  It is at Pickerington High School North choir room in Pickerington, Ohio from 4:00 - 6:30 pm. I will present a tone clinic, masterclass, and mini-recital with pianist Linda Kernohan.  This is sponsored by the Pickerington North Band Boosters. Auditors are welcome for $10 at the door.   Since I am on Sabbatical from Capital University during the Spring 2018 Semester, this will give me a good teaching fix.  It's always refreshing to go out and work with younger students and see what their interests and challenges are.

The "Flugge Jazz Fantasy" is one of three commissions PANdemonium4 will be premiering in 2018; this group is on a mission!  We are also delighted to have Linda Kernohan's "My Compass Still to Guide Me" and Paul Osterfield's "Ice Moon" on the docket.  Nothing makes us happier than playing awesome new music! PANdemonium4 will perform all three new works at Otterbein University (2/24 8:00 pm), and for the Southeast Michigan Flute Association's Flute Festival (Plymouth, MI) (2/25 2-5 pm).  Additionally, we will present a clinic on Flute Chamber Music for solo and ensemble contest at the Ohio Music Educators' Association Convention this year, February 8th at 5 pm, at the Columbus Convention Center.

In March I look forward to performing Beethoven's 8th Symphony with the Ashland Symphony on Saturday, March 10th, and Mahler's Symphony No. 4 with the Central Ohio Symphony on Sunday, March 11.  That's quite a range of major repertoire in one weekend!

In April 2018 my husband Spencer Hobe and I will travel to England for several weeks, including a week of teaching and performing with my Breckenridge Music Festival oboe colleague Ann Lillya!  I look forward to exploring some musical gems by British composers whom are not mainstays of flute repertoire in the States.  The last week of April, I will play in the pit orchestra at the Ohio Theatre for "The King and I" tour- after 15 years in Columbus, it will be fun to finally play a Broadway show!

PANdemonium4 has performed all over Ohio, at the 2017 National Flute Association Annual Convention in Minneapolis, MN, and in West Virginia... next on our list is Michigan in February- BRRR!

Finally, other CDs for sale are the 2015 double CD release, Mark Flugge Remembered: Jazz Originals and Standards, and my 2012 CD, Waltz into Madness.  Thank you for your support and friendship!  -Lisa
